Skin — Lesion removal
Precise diathermy treatment for skin tags, milia and seborrhoeic keratoses. Performed by a Dermal Clinician at our Parkdale clinic, with minimal downtime.
Skin tags, milia and seborrhoeic keratoses are among the most common skin presentations we see. Whether they're a cosmetic concern or simply something you'd prefer not to have, lesion removal offers a considered and precise option worth discussing with a clinician.
We use a diathermy device to remove lesions cleanly and precisely, with minimal disruption to the skin around them. It's a straightforward treatment, and in most cases we're able to go ahead on the same day as your consultation.
If you'd like to know whether it's right for you, the best place to start is a skin consultation with one of our Dermal Clinicians.
Clinical perspective
"Precision matters as much as the outcome. Diathermy allows us to address lesions with accuracy, protecting the skin around each site."
Each lesion presents differently in terms of depth, size and tissue type. A thorough clinical assessment ensures the approach is matched to the individual, supporting the best possible outcome with minimal disruption to the surrounding skin.
Skin tags are small, soft growths that typically appear in areas where skin rubs against skin or clothing, such as the neck, underarms, eyelids and groin. While benign, they can be uncomfortable or cosmetically bothersome. Diathermy may assist in their precise removal with minimal scarring.
Milia are small, white, keratin-filled cysts that form just beneath the surface of the skin. Commonly appearing around the eyes, nose and cheeks, they do not resolve on their own and are not easily extracted with standard methods. Diathermy may support their safe and effective removal.
Seborrhoeic keratoses are benign growths that often appear as raised, waxy or scaly patches on the skin, ranging in colour from light tan to dark brown. Common with age, they may become irritated or cosmetically unwanted. Diathermy may help reduce their appearance or facilitate their removal.
Diathermy is a clinically established method for the removal of superficial benign lesions. At BYGOLDEN, we use it as part of a considered skin assessment process, ensuring each treatment is appropriate and well-planned before any procedure begins.
The technique offers a level of precision that supports clean outcomes, with the ability to target individual lesions without significant disruption to surrounding tissue. Key aspects of our approach include:
Diathermy may assist in the removal of bothersome skin tags on the face and body, reducing their visual presence and any associated physical irritation.
Milia that have not responded to topical skincare or standard extraction may be addressed more effectively with diathermy, which targets the cyst at its base.
Seborrhoeic keratoses that are raised, irritated or cosmetically unwanted may be reduced or removed with diathermy, depending on their size and depth.
Where several lesions are present, diathermy may support treatment of multiple sites in a single session, subject to clinical assessment and individual presentation.
Diathermy allows for precise targeting in more delicate areas of the face, where accuracy and a considered clinical approach are particularly important.
For clients who experience recurring lesions, an ongoing skin assessment plan may help identify contributing factors and support longer-term skin management.
Your clinician will assess the lesion or lesions in detail, confirm suitability for diathermy, and outline the expected treatment approach, outcomes and aftercare requirements.
The treatment area is cleansed and, where appropriate, a topical anaesthetic may be applied to improve comfort prior to the procedure commencing.
The diathermy device is applied to each lesion with precision. The controlled current disrupts the target tissue, facilitating removal with minimal impact on the surrounding skin.
Following treatment, your clinician will provide specific aftercare instructions. A small scab may form at the treatment site, which typically resolves within 7 to 10 days.
Lesion removal at BYGOLDEN begins with a thorough skin consultation. Your Dermal Clinician will assess the lesion or lesions, confirm suitability and develop a personalised treatment plan. Treatment may be available on the same day, where clinically appropriate.
